24th October 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

One event on 7th November 2019 at 6:30 pm

Are you a published or aspiring author? Have you dreamed of being a writer, but convinced yourself you didn’t have what it takes? Do you have a story (novel, memoir, poem, song lyrics, screenplay) inside of you that’s aching to be told?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then join us for Session 1 on Thursday, October 24th from 6:30-8:00 pm for an experimental writing community we’re calling Channeling Dickens (although you are welcome to channel Steven King, James Patterson, etc)

Regardless of your level of experience as a writer, we invite you to join our community, to learn about the craft of writing, hear what others are writing and share your own work.

We are calling Channeling Dickens “experimental” because there is no curriculum or formal lesson plans. The structure is organic and will evolve to meet the needs and desires of the community. You will have opportunities to share your writing for critique, but such sharing is not required. To get your creative juices flowing, we’ll assign homework projects that you can then share during subsequent sessions.

Above all, Channeling Dickens is about having fun while learning to get your unique story on paper.

Our two volunteer facilitators for Channeling Dickens are:

Doug Spak: Doug is a marketing and advertising consultant with more than four decades of experience. He is a copywriter, blogger and content marketing/social media expert. He is also a screenwriter whose first script, A Christmas Masterpiece, was recently filmed in Cincinnati and hopes to find a home on either Netflix or The Hallmark Channel in the fall of 2020. You can learn more at dougspakwrites.com

Alan Falkingham balances his writing with a full time corporate job and raising 2 kids. His short story Drive All Night appeared in Fish Anthology 2018 and his flash fiction piece Lonely Magpie will be published in Bath Flash Fiction Anthology later this year. Alan also recently secured an agent to represent his full length novel, Clearwater Lake, which he is aiming to get published soon. You can learn more at alanfalkingham.com

Please join us on Thursday, October 24th from 6:30-8:00 pm for Channeling Dickens. All you need to bring is a pen, notepad and your creative curiosity. However, if you are a writer with a work-in-progress, we’ll provide time for you to share your work with the group or, if you are an already published author, we would love your help to join Doug and Alan as facilitators.

We hope to see you on the 24th.

This workshop is intended for adults and will run over 2 sessions: Oct 24 and Nov 7.

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”
Maya Angelou
