For only $10.00 the Blue Manatee Literacy Project can donate a new, age and content appropriate book to a disadvantaged student in the Cincinnati area.
Based on informal survey results in 2 focus schools conducted by teachers, over 90% of kindergarten and
first grade students report having between zero and 5 books at home of their own to read with a family
member. Despite recent improvements, close to 40% of children entering kindergarten in
disadvantaged neighborhoods struggle to read at grade level, with 3/4 of those students
remaining at similar risk by grade 3. There are 37% of Kindergarten students in CPS that are not
‘on track’ when tested for Reading Diagnostics. You can help change the course of these young readers lives by donating to BMLP. Buy a virtual book today and we will turn it into a physical book held in the hands of an at-risk child.
